here we go! the first ever inductees to my personal hall of fame of awesome! without any further ado, the honored members.

from the world of sports: Steve Yzerman
from the world of audio: Brian Wilson
from the world of video: David Lynch
from the world of words: Roald Dahl

these dudes are pretty much the most awesome. dahl was my favorite author as a kid and is still pretty much up there as an adult. i’ve read most everything that he’s written and haven’t found anything that i didn’t like. also, i have no idea where my copies of matilda and the wonderful story of henry sugar went and it has been driving me crazy the past few days! steve yzerman is my all time favorite hockey player. his was the first jersey i ever owned. i had yzerman posters covering the walls of my old bedroom (i still have the majority of them in my basement somewhere) and a hockey card album dedicated to stevie y. along with being a world class hockey player he’s also a tremendous person. always hard-working, modest and thoughtful; yzerman is one of the most respected people to ever play the game. brian wilson is one of the most respected rock musicians of all time. his amazing compositions were made all the more amazing due to the fact that he was mostly deaf in one ear (hence him always preferring mono over stereo mixes). his story is tragic but his work is transcendent. he is responsible for the greatest song ever written (god only knows). david lynch was the last awesome person i ‘got into’ in my life but he’s had a presence just as long as the others. growing up i remember my dad having a vhs copy of eraserhead on the shelf along with all of our videos of woody woodpecker, muppet babies and the wizard of oz. i remember asking about it once and my dad only saying that it was ‘weird’. he sure was right. i’ve since seen all of his movies, watched twin peaks four or five times through, read six books about/by him and downloaded a handful of his albums. totally awesome. all totally awesome.

so there it is, the very first four inductees to my hall of fame of awesome. no big surprises, really. it’s really just a flimsy pretense for me to categorize and list things. i love lists!

after my hockey game the other night (last sunday?) the team went up to the bar per usual and got drinks and fries. on a few of the many tvs they were showing clips of rickey henderson’s speech about being voted into the baseball hall of fame. i then thought about how i dislike most hall of fames because they are not AWESOME enough, the hockey hall of fame included (bernie federko? really???).

so i started brainstorming my very own hall of fame, entirely reserved for those most awesome to ME. i decided that each inducting class will have four members representing four fields that i find awesome: sports, music, tv (and movies) and books. there may also be special inductees from time to time for people that don’t fit into these categories (world leaders, scientists, people that have given me advice in elevators and/or convenience stores, etc.)

i came up with a short list of about twenty names that night and will have tons more to add. i’ll perhaps add a class monthly? also all slots do not have to be filled in any given induction period. we’ll see how it goes.

look for the inaugural class on monday!

i just wanted to write that i haven’t forgotten or quit on blogging about my music. it’s just that i’ve started working two jobs and playing softball and hockey again so i’ve been pretty super busy. so sorry this thing has just been a bunch of twitter updates for the past while, i will come back to the primary objective sooner or later. sorry!
